In September 2009 Blackburn Starling was awarded formal certification against Quality Management Standard BS EN ISO 9001:2008 for our Design and Manufacturing activities, by the British Standards Institute.

As our ability to provide software for integrated monitoring and control applications became a core business activity the Quality Management system was enhanced. This was formally recognised by the award of another Quality Management Certificate against the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001:2008 TickIT. This is a specialist certification scheme covering specifically the development, supply and maintenance of software.

Blackburn Starling is a member of the Achilles Certified Emissions and Reduction Scheme.  The certificate and disclosure statement details ISO 14064-1 compliance.

ASTA Certification

All products manufactured by the company are independently tested and comply with the International Standard EN 60439.1 (IEC 439.1) & EN 60298. These standards lay down a comprehensive package of performance that must be verified in order to satisfy the requirements of fully Type Tested Assemblies (TTA).

These tests come under eight basic headings as:-

  • Temperature Rise Limits
  • Mechanical operation tests
  • Dielectric Properties
  • Short-circuit withstand strength of the main circuits
  • Short-circuit withstand strength of protective circuits
  • Effectiveness of protective circuit
  • Clearance and creepage distances
  • IP degree of protection

This list gives an overall picture of the Company’s commitment to test and certification, which is an ongoing development. Customer specific requirements can be considered when formulating our future test schedules.

Note

Type tests are expensive to conduct but they are vital and are the only way of verifying the design in accordance with the requirements for TTA’s.
